Football ProgramUpdated Tuesday July 31, 2018 by Chris Skiffington.
LS Youth Football is committed to the growth of our sport in a safe and fun environment. We offer opportunities to learn and play the game starting in 1st grade and our program completes at the end of the 8th-grade season.
We start the younger boys with Flag Football in grades 1 thru 4 where they learn the fundamentals of the game: positions, throwing, passing, catching, running basic offensive and defensive plays. But, mostly having fun playing this great game.
In grades 5 thru 8, we offer our tackle program. We teach our boys how to play the game as a team. They develop blocking and tackling skills the right way. We teach the Hawk tackle introduced by the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks. This tackle approach is similar to the approach used in Rugby around the world. The goal of the Hawk tackle is to take the head out of the tackle and it is very effective.
Our season begins on August 6th and ends in late October or Early November depending on the grade and that season’s specific schedule.
7th and 8th-grade tackle will practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8pm on the LSRHS Stadium Field
Flag football will practice on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30 pm on the LSRHS Stadium FIeld.
Sunday is Football Day in Sudbury. Home games are played at the LS High School Turf and occasionally one of the surrounding grass or other turf fields at the High School if needed. Our plan is to begin each Home Game Sunday at 9:00 with the 1st and 2nd grade Flag Teams playing first followed by each grade, making it a fun day for parents, players, and the whole Sudbury Football Community.
